You’re situation was avoidable, completely. You know that right?
First of all, why the hell are you having sex? You’re only sixteen years old. Personally, I think the only time you should be having sex is when you’re old enough and MATURE enough to accept the responsibility of a child if you were to get pregnant. Clearly you aren’t either of those because you weren’t mature enough to take every precaution to ensure that you didn’t get pregnant, and you couldn’t take care of the child yourself. If you had not had sex, or even just took the extra time to put yourself on birth control, and use a condom you wouldn’t have ended up pregnant, you wouldn’t have had to give up your baby, you wouldn’t have had to deal with the emotional trauma of being a pregnant teenager. Not only that but you wouldn’t have had to grow up so fast, you could’ve enjoyed your time with your friends rather than be in and out of the doctors office dealing with things too adult for someone your age.
Although you did end up knocked up at sixteen, I think you are remarkable. I’m sure you had a rough time deciding on what to do with your baby, and I’m sure you had an even harder time figuring out what you’d do with it after not following through with the abortion. You took the time to actually take care the life that was inside you, not just by eating right, but also doing what was best for it later on when it’s born. I admire you even more so for taking the time to decide what is best for the baby. You thought really hard about they type of home, and the type of family you wanted the baby to grow up in. You’re absolutely amazing, amazing because even though Vanessa and her husband didn’t stay together you still gave her the gift of being a mother.
God forbid I ever end up knocked up before I’m ready, but if I did I hope I would have the courage to tell my parents as you did, and to have the strength you did to give it up so it could have a better life.
I truly believe you are a better person, and hopefully smarter now than before you got pregnant. I hope that you get another chance at being a mom, except the next time it'll be when you're ready.
